Derivative of Money Words

The English word money comes from the Latin word moneta.Moneta was the name of Juno's palace in Rome which is where the Roman coins were made.,or minted.Infact, the word moneta means both money and mint..Mint is both a verb to make money and a noun (the place where cions are made) For example, coins are minted in a mint.
When coins were first  used, they were made of precious metalTthe weight of the precious metal was important. In fact, the names of many different  currencies have something to do with weight. The name of the  old Spanish currency peseta comes fromthe Spanish word word for weight(pesa).
In th U K ,the pound is both the currency and a measure of weight which was used before the U K started using metric measurements.one pound(weight) is about half a kilo.1500 years ago, when the words were first used,a pound(money) represented the value of silver.
